WHAT: A seed library works like this: you select seeds from a communal supply, grow them in your garden, then replenish the supply with new seeds from the new plants. One librarian estimates that around 200 seed libraries are located in American public libraries.
SO WHAT: Black Mountain Public Library (North Carolina) says its seed library is a "creative endeavour," and that library's mission statement says that it supports such endeavours. If anything it sounds harmless... but surprisingly the exchange of locally adapted seeds has encountered legal problems involving government regulations.
