WHAT: The Nashville Public Library encouraged its members to participate in its Summer Challenge - a neat reward points program - by offering a Fine Amnesty Week as the potential prize. If the combined points from all members reached 500,000, participants could have their overdue fines waived during one special week. (Spoiler alert: They reached 750,000.)
SO WHAT: Like the popular Food for Fines, this initiative brings back members put off by their fines. As an additional year-round service, I think online fine payments (which very few libraries offer) could help reach out to anyone possibly embarrassed by their fines.
